Before you start reading about the hottest boot trend of the season, I want to introduce you to the next blogger in our contributor series, Ashley Harg of DTKaustin. Considering Ashley is a commercial wardrobe stylist, what is else is better for her to talk about than how to style your new fav pair of boots?

xo,

Becca

Over-The-Knee boots have been all the rage during the Fall and Winter months and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. Mainly because OTKs are some of the most versatile boots around. You know how everyone always tells you that a pair of amazing black pumps will get you through years and make you feel so sexy? Same exact thing with an amazing pair of OTKs. Think Pretty Woman, but classier! Not only do they go with everything, but I seriously feel like a million bucks when I wear them and I wear them with anything and EVERYTHING I possibly can!

Being a stylist, quite a few of my clients have an issue with OTK boots and how slim the thigh and calf opening are. Thankfully, most of the boots being produced these days either have adjustable buckles to give you a little more room or they have ties in the back which lets you adjust accordingly. I’ve also heard the complete opposite; the boots look too baggy for my skinny legs. Most OTKs are made with a stretchier fabric and leather that easily stretches and forms to your leg so they aren’t going anywhere!

With this post, I wanted to share how easy it is to wear OTK boots with even the most summery looks to transition you right into Fall. It’s really easier than you think, especially if you have those favorite shorts or mini dresses that you want to get more wear out of. Layering is key, but I will get more into that below!

Denim

First, let’s start out with the most popular ways to wear OTKs; skinny denim. This is probably one of my favorite looks for Fall because it is so easy to throw on a pair of skinny jeans, a chunky sweater and my boots and I’m out the door looking extra chic and put together. This is normally my Winter go-to because it is such an effortless look that still makes you look like you put hours of thought into what you are going to wear.

Dress

If I’m wanting to feel a little more on the dressy side for date night or church, I will opt to wear my OTK boots with a cute fit and flare dress. This look is a definite must in the colder temps, especially if you still want to show a little skin and don’t want to wear tights under your dresses. One reason this look is a favorite of mine is because it makes my legs extremely long looking, which they definitely are not IRL! If you’re taller and worry about looking like a giant, opt for flat OTK boots and you will still get that amazing slimming affect.

Shorts or short skirts

The outfit pictured is one of my new favorite looks that easily transitions my summer looks into Fall. Since it’s still pretty warm in Texas, like still in the upper 90s in September, you really have to get creative with how you start dressing for Fall. By the time all of the September fashion magazines have hit stands I’ve already got major winter envy from all of these gals that are already posting their winter wear, so I have to make do with what I’ve got. And that means, short shorts or skirts, OTKs and a comfy sweater to top and jacket.
